The purpose of Wildside Nature Tours is to enhance the public's interest, understanding and appreciation of the natural wonders of our planet Earth.
We contribute to local economies, conservation efforts and environmental education. Through ethical and sustainable practices, we strive to be a role model for our clients and the tourism industry.
Wanted – used optical equipment and birding books
Throughout our travels abroad we encounter local wildlife educators and enthusiasts that are doing their best, on a shoestring budget, to promote nature, birding, wildlife and conservation in the rural areas that we visit. Over the years we have become friends with many of these people and we have and will continue to support them and give something back to the community.
We are often asked by trip participants, “Is there anything that we can bring or donate to local organizations?” The answer is “Yes”. Local educators are always in need of field guides or optics. Your used field guide or binoculars, that you may be looking to replace, will go a long way to help promote our pastime and will make a huge impact on the lives of locals. We would be glad to discuss any of these options with you.
Our program has helped support, and donations have been distributed to, the following organizations:
Belize
• Donation of new and used optics to Belize Audubon and Programme for Belize
• Educational supplies to schools throughout the country
India
• Used field guides to birding guides at Keolodea National Park
• Educational supplies to the school in our guides village near Bharatpur with field guides
Kenya
• New Nikon optics and field guide to Francis, our young guide to the specialties at Baringo Cliffs
• Used optics to the Kakamega Educational Center
• New field guide and Nikon binoculars to local guides and drivers, including the extraordinarily talented Arafa at Mida Creek
Mexico
• Continued support of ProNatura Veracruz
• Field guide to Aldo, a young hawk counter in Cardel, Veracruz with a very bright future
• Educational supplies to Vicente Guerrero Primary School in Michoacan
• Donation of new field guides to guides at the Monarch butterfly sanctuaries at Michoacan
