We offer 8-day trips to one of the most scenic parts of the world to explore the birds, mammals and flora of Scotland’s Highlands, western islands and the most northerly archipelago in the British Isles, the Shetlands.
May and June are traditionally the most popular wildlife watching months in the Highlands. Summer visitors have all arrived, breeding is in full swing, and the weather is warm and pleasant. Based in the beautiful Spey Valley, we combine the tranquil Caledonian pinewoods and the vast Cairngorm mountain plateau, in search of breeding Ptarmigan and Dotterel, with an overnight stay to soak up the rugged beauty and desolate vistas of the West Coast. We visit every habitat in search of birds. We will watch Golden Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Slavonian (Horned) Grebe, Red and Black-throated Loons, Capercaillie, Scottish (Parrot) Crossbill and Crested Tit, as well as the glorious skua and seabird colony of Handa Island.
Our Northern Isles holiday explores the most northerly parts of Britain. We start in Shetland, move onto Orkney, and witness some of the most impressive scenery and wildlife in the country as well as indulging in the culture, history and archaeology of these ancient lands. A fantastic experience in the long northern summer. We visit large seabird colonies, show you Red-necked Phalarope and Storm Petrel up-close at their breeding sites, watch Otter and seals, and have a chance of cetaceans such as Orca and Minke Whale. We make the most of the long daylight hours available in the ‘Land Of The Simmer Dim’ to enjoy the fabulous scenery, history and archaeology all around us.
The best of summer birding in Britain awaits you. Combine the Highlands with the Northern Islands for the Ultimate Scottish natural history holiday.
